Comments on other issues: Four sectors running short of skilled workers

After experiencing an economic slowdown in 2015, four Indonesia sectors are projected to continue employing a high number of skilled workers this year, especially those with international experience and multilingual ability, a survey reveals.

The four sectors are e-commerce, digital, health care and insurance, while the commodity and oil '€” gas industries are the least promising for Indonesian professionals, said Robert Walters Indonesia director Rob Bryson.

'€œThe demand for specialist professionals will continue to outstrip the supply in Indonesia. In addition, this will fuel the interest for the return of Indonesians currently working or studying abroad,'€ he said on Monday in Jakarta.

Your comments:

Yes, the medical field is an incestuous world with old buddies keeping the power tight to themselves. It'€™s a semi-government setup that is hard to penetrate and modernize.

With this said, the '€œclients'€, the patients, do want change and better service. I hope it will lead to a forced break-up of this monopoly. Unfortunately, I have no input for how to succeed in this sector.

Key words: invest for the long term, money, small pool of professionals. What if I tell you, I and my friends have been trying to invest/train/educate for the betterment of the medical world and also offering scholarships abroad to that small pool of professionals.

All the negotiations/collaborations were conducted under the auspices of the Indonesian Embassy to the EU. In 2007, again in 2008 and 2008, and 2009, 2012 and the last time October 2014, all failed. Cry for the beloved country! I have the impression that Indonesia is not even slightly interested in the betterment of health and education in the nation. I can'€™t comment on e-commerce, etc.

For Indonesia to raise the standard of living for the majority of its people, they will not need further education yet, but they need to be willing to work for very low wages like China paid its workers.

Once they have achieved that level of development then they can also aspire to a level of development the Chinese have now that allows them to visit Indonesia on holiday.

'€œSlowly, slowly catchee monkey'€ used to be an old Chinese saying '€” take it to heart Indonesia. For Indonesia to attempt to compete in the world market as an equal player is fantastically aspirational, but not likely to succeed yet.

And it'€™s sad for me to say take pride in your work. Rarely do I find professionals that take pride in their work that increases productivity and quality of work. I'€™ve met a few but too little to make a difference.

Many Indonesians can easily afford a holiday to China.

All Indonesians I know think they are almost 100 percent right.
