Wins for WPP XI, Jaguars CC and Indorama in JCA League

This weekend'€™s action in the TATA Motors JCA League saw a number of teams secure comfortable victories to move them up the points table.

In a Division 1 game at the GMIS grounds on Sunday, the hosts took on the might of WPP India XI. Winning the toss and sending the opposition in to bat, GMIS were not quite prepared for the onslaught of the WPP batsmen, who led by Pallav Malhotra'€™s attacking 155 runs, amassed 315/9 in its full quota of 35 overs.

Vasudevan Parthasarathy was the other main contributor scoring 73 runs. Surviving a close call for a catch when on 40, Pallav went on the leather hunt as GMIS bowlers found no answers to his scintillating stroke play. Mohammad Imran took 3 wickets, while Jalaj Chaturvedi and Karan Tiwari took 2 wickets each.

On a ground known for being full of runs, GMIS started the chase positively as big hitting batsman and skipper Naresh Gupta hit a hurricane 52 runs off just 19 balls for his fifth half century of this season.

Despite Mohammad Imran scoring an impressive 80 runs, and contributions from Ajeet Bhatt (33 runs) and Diwakar Mohan (30 runs), a target of 316 was always going to be a herculean task, and GMIS eventually finished on 251/9 at the end of 35 overs, falling short by 64 runs. Gaurav Pathak and Gaurang Kapadia took 2 wickets each.

It was a good chase effort, but WPP XI at the end of the day proved once again why it is considered a force to be reckoned with.

In another game played on Saturday, at Cibubur in Division 2, the Jaguars strengthened their position at the top of the table, defeating the Chairos Tigers by 5 wickets.

Winning the toss and batting first, the Tigers squandered their advantage losing quick wickets in the first 12 overs to be precariously placed at 50/6.

Jagdeep Singh, opening the bowling, drew first blood taking 2 wickets within his first 2 overs. Sridhar Sasikumar then kept a stranglehold on things when he scalped 2 more wickets in his second over. Amit Lalaji, continued his form with the ball, also chipping in with 2 wickets.

Man-of-the-Match Rehan then cleaned up the tail, demolishing the Tiger'€™s remaining batsmen, taking 3 wickets for just 12 runs in his 7 overs that included two maidens.

For Charios Tigers CC, Sachin Gopalan (26 runs) & Yeri Rosogna (22 runs) were the lone contributors with the bat, as the team went all out for 96 runs in the 28th over. In response, Jaguars CC got off to a good start in typical fashion through Vijay Kumar (24 runs) and Dhimanshu Raghuwanshi (34 runs).

Despite a flurry of wickets going down, 96 runs was never going to be easy to defend and despite a spirited fightback the Jaguars reached the target in the 19th over, with just 5 wickets down. For the Chairos Tigers, Gema Fajar once again shone with the ball taking 2 wickets.

In the game between Indorama and Challengers CC at Cibubur, Indorama won by 39 runs.

Batting first, Indorama finished on 188/9 in 35 overs. PC Sethi and Srikanth scored 24 runs and 25 runs, respectively. Satinder Minhas took 3/29 while Sunil Samtani took 2/31. In response, the Challengers who kept losing wickets at regular intervals could not keep up with the required run rate finishing on 149/9 at the end of 35 overs, losing by 39 runs.

Shekhar scored an unbeaten 38 runs while Vasudevan scored 30. Sandeep Bora (4/21) and Srikanth (3/15) were largely responsible for restricting the Challengers.
