Bandung aims to become a smart city like Singapore by employing various smartphone applications to help the city serve its residents, the mayor says.
'Bandung could have 1,000 applications. That is my target,' Bandung Mayor Ridwan Kamil said as quoted by tempo.co news portal on Friday.
Currently, Bandung has around 300 applications in use by the internal city administration while Singapore has 1,600.
'I want to compete with Singapore, an international-standard city,' Ridwan added.
Ridwan believed that online services could help residents become more efficient, with applications, for example, that facilitate the ordering of ojek (motorcycle taxis).
The mayor launched Bandung Smart City last year with the release of various applications and programs.
One of the programs is the Bandung Smart Card that through cooperations with five private banks can be used for various transactions, such as paying school tuition fees, electronic parking and transportation fares.
With this card, the Bandung administration has created cashless transactions for its residents. (cal/dan)(+)
