griculture quarantine at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten, has thwarted an attempt to smuggle dozens of reptiles into Hong Kong.
The airport's agriculture quarantine head Musyaffak Fauzi said that his agency had seized 15 green pythons, eight monitor lizards and a radiated tortoise from a Hong Kong national Cheuk Wai Ho.
'Cheuk hid the reptiles in his suitcase and covered them with cloths and boots,' Musyaffak said on Thursday as quoted by wartakotalive.com.
Musyaffak explained that airport officers suspected Cheuk when the X-ray monitor showed moving items in his luggage.
Musyaffak added that the perpetrator did not own a permit from the Agriculture Ministry to bring the reptiles to Hong Kong.
According to Musyaffak, Cheuk said that he bought the reptiles at Pramuka traditional market in East Jakarta to take care of them, not sell them.
'Cheuk has left Indonesia and is now in Hong Kong. We released him after questioning,' Musyaffak added.
