U

nidentified people on Thursday morning placed a black backpack with the word '€œbomb'€ written on it in front of a house on Jl. Undata in East Palu, Central Sulawesi, creating panic among residents.

House owner Edward, 46, claimed he saw the bag placed in front of his entrance gate as he was about to leave home at around 11 a.m. local time.

'€œI immediately called the police and evacuated my family,'€ Edward told The Jakarta Post at the location.

The Central Sulawesi Police bomb squad arrived on the scene at around 12:30 p.m. to handle the backpack.

Palu Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Basya Radyananda said the backpack had been intentionally placed there to terrorize the public, but upon examining it, police found no explosive device.

'€œThe backpack only contained paper, documents and photographs believed to belong to the bag'€™s owner,'€ said Basya, adding that the police would immediately investigate the documents.
