Greater Jakarta: Teenager nabbed for killing baby daughter

ast Jakarta Police have arrested 18-year-old Mira Hiryati for allegedly killing her newborn daughter, placing her in a bag and abandoning the body at a warehouse, police spokesperson said on Monday.

East Jakarta Police spokeswoman Comr. Husaimah said Mira was nabbed at her house, located in Cipayung, East Jakarta. The suspect, according to Husaimah, allegedly killed her child as she did not want her parents to find out about her pregnancy.

'€œShe gave birth at her house without anyone to help her,'€ she said as quoted by tempo.com, adding that the incident took place on Dec. 29.

Husaimah said Mira killed the baby by gagging her with a blanket. Afterwards she put the body in a bag and discarded the body at a warehouse in Cilangkap, East Jakarta.

'€œShe threw the baby away a day after she gave birth. The warehouse is adjacent to her house,'€ Husaimah continued.

The body of the baby, born with a weight of 2.5 kilograms and a height of 45 centimeters, was found on Dec. 30 by a local resident.
