Economy in brief: BNI Syariah profit up 39% in 2015

NI Syariah posted Rp 228.52 billion (US$16.95 million) in profit last year, up 39 percent from the previous year, the Sharia-based lender said in a statement.
BNI Syariah president director Dinno Indiano said the bank's assets grew by 18 percent year-on-year to Rp 23.01 trillion as per December 2015, while third-party funds rose to Rp3.07 trillion, up 18.9 percent from the 2014 figure.
The bank said it handed out loans of Rp17.76 trillion, mostly for home financing.
The Islamic lender maintained the quality of its loan portfolio as it kept the ratio of non-performing financing at 2.53 percent.
In 2014, BNI Syariah posted around Rp 15 trillion in financing, an increase of 30 percent year-on-year.
