AKARTA: Indonesia will host an international meeting on counterterrorism measures that will focus on deradicalization, Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Luhut Pandjaitan has said.
'The President has given me the go-ahead to organize an international meeting to discuss efforts to counter terrorism and implement deradicalization programs,' he said as quoted by Antara.
The meeting will involve members of ASEAN and other countries including Australia, the UK and the US.
Luhut said that organizers of the meeting would have two months to get the program ready.
Also joining the meeting will be Russia, which had earlier pledged to engage in cooperation with Indonesia to combat terrorism.
Following last month's terror attack in Central Jakarta, the government is ramping up its prosecution of terrorist suspects.
Earlier this week, West Jakarta District Court jailed seven individuals who were found to have ties with the Islamic State (IS) movement.
The government has also stepped up its deradicalization program, which many have criticized for its limited progress.
Critics have said the programs often use only a ceremonial approach to fighting Islamic radicalism, whereas sympathizers of the IS movement, for example, use social media to attract youth.
