'We will try to keep the economy running to reduce the magnitude of layoffs'' it won't work unless they revoke the unfriendly policies towards businesses (local and foreign). Unfortunately, the government has not yet managed to reduce excessive bureaucracy for foreign businesses to open and operate in this country.
Even for local ones, the steps to open companies are just way too complicated. The only good initiative about the economic policies is the One-Stop Integrated Service (PTSP), though in its implementation, it needs better coordination.
Preventing layoffs certainly should be prioritized, but with an unfriendly business climate for companies, it'll be extremely hard to keep employees working with reduced cash flows' added to the fact that our national policies tend to be more and more protectionist, instead of adjusting to the global and regional free market.
The government is too influenced by the hard-line nationalists who keep on shouting their agenda 'to protect local jobs', while in reality, they're the ones making money from the government's policies.
Corruption is another problem that keeps on inhibiting the further growth of the nation. Without tough measures to crack down on corruption cases nationally, we're not going to see more foreign direct investment coming in. Corruption and red tape are both responsible for the non-competitive and unfriendly business climate for local and foreign companies to operate in. These issues need to be addressed.
