wo people died and dozens of others were injured on Friday evening after a campus bus carrying students of Andalas University (Unand) in Padang, West Sumatra, slipped off the road and hit a house near the main entrance to the state university.
The incident killed 58-year-old Asril Zaini, the bus driver, and 20-year-old Husniawati Dewi, a student at the university's School of Industrial Technology. At least 40 people, most of them Unand students, needed treatment in three local hospitals for their injuries.
Unand's deputy rector for student affairs, Hermansyah, said the university would cover all medical costs of the victims. 'We are very sorry for the incident,' he said on Saturday.
Witnesses said the ill-fated bus experienced brake problems seconds before the crash, forcing the driver to swerve the bus to the left and hit a house.
