RI'€™s Tigers annihilate IndoramaCC

A

n exceptional performance came this weekend from the all-Indonesian Chairos Tigers, who defeated IndoramaCC by 47 runs in the TATA Motors JCA league.

Winning the toss and electing to field first at the GMIS grounds on Sunday, it all seemed good for Indorama, which had the Indonesian lads tottering at 46/4. However a fine counter-attacking innings from Fernando Nando Nato provided the thrust the innings needed. His knock of 82 runs laced with eight cleanly hit sixes and his partnership with Repen (20 runs) that yielded a match-winning 118 runs came in quick time, sending the bowlers on a leather hunt.

The Chairos Tigers eventually were all-out for 179 runs, a score that wouldn'€™t give most chasing teams sleepless nights. However the Tigers, who have time and again in the past demonstrated their desire to make their opponents earn every run, again made scoring difficult, Indorama reaching just 45/2 in 12 overs.

Persistent line and length and a disciplined show on the field ensured that they pegged away at the wickets at regular intervals, and Indorama could never wriggle out of the stranglehold, ending all out for 132 runs.

Spinner Agi took four wickets, while Nando, this time with the ball in hand, and Juni claimed two wickets each. Despite not being at the top of the points table, the Tigers are ensuring that they are a team to watch.

Elsewhere, at Purwakarta on Sunday, defending champion KLN WISCI pulled off a coup against close title contenders WPP IndiaXI, winning by three runs by virtue of a better run rate, when play was halted because of a heavy downpour.

According to KLNWISCI skipper William Noronha, in what could '€œeasily be one of their best wins in a decade'€, WISCI snatched victory from the jaws of defeat. Led by Naidu'€™s onslaught (70 runs) and sitting pretty at 92/1 after 12 overs chasing a modest target of 179 in a smallish ground, it was WPP'€™s game to lose from thereon.

Splendid bowling from Indonesian talent Gamantika Kadek, Suhail Modak and Aman Singh helped WISCI claw its way back into the game, conceding just 63 runs in the next 19 overs. By the time play was called off, WPP had reached 155/5 in 31 overs, three runs short of where they needed to be to secure a win.
