he Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) in Denpasar has confiscated 18,085 illegal drug and 1,019 cosmetic products worth more than Rp 309 million. The products were confiscated from 38 kiosks, traditional markets and supermarkets across Bali.
The head of the agency’s Bali office, Endang Widowati, said the drugs and cosmetics were seized during raids conducted in Denpasar city, Badung regency, Buleleng regency, Tabanan regency and Karangasem regency.
“The inspection, held from April 18 to 29, was part of the agency’s attempt to curb distribution of illegal products. Most of the confiscated products do not have distribution permits, while some others contain dangerous substances,” Endang told a media conference on Friday.
Among the products confiscated included herbal medicines known as jamu, whitening cream, face foundation and lipstick.
Endang warned that all products without distribution permits may be dangerous as they may contain dangerous substances. She reminded people to stop using products that are available in the market but do not have authorised distribution permits.
