span style="line-height: 1.6em;">South Korean duo Lee Yong Dae and Yoo Yeon Seong ended the run of home crowd favorites, Indonesian pair Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamulio, in a tight 21-15, 21-19 men's doubles match in the BCA Indonesia Open Superseries Premier 2016 badminton championship.

The pair, who had defeated Indonesian Angga Pratama and Ricky Karanda Suwardi on Wednesday, admitted that a loss of concentration caused the tight score in the second game .

“We were quite nervous in the second game which caused the last game to be quite messy. Later, we will be better so we can go on and win the tournament,” Yong Dae said after the match on Thursday, adding that the crowd's enthusiasm had caused him to become nervous during the game.

Meanwhile, Yeon Song did not expect the game to be that tough and acknowledged both Indonesian teams he faced.

“Angga and Ricky were good at controlling the shuttlecock, while Marcus and Kevin were good in their rotation,” Yeon Song said.

Meanwhile, Marcus and Kevin's coach Herry Ip said although his pupils were defeated, they were not embarrassed. “Yes, they lost but they did fight. Anyhow, there are a lot of things that need improvement,” he said.

Both players were young and therefore needed to control their emotions on the court better, Herry said, underlining his plan to teach the pair patience when in a pressure-filled match. (ags)
