housand Islands Municipality Administration has announced that it will temporarily closed Harapan Island for tourists during the upcoming Ramadhan fasting month.
Agus Setiawan, North Thousand Islands district head, said Friday that no tourists would be allowed to enter the island from the start of Ramadhan, which was expected to fall on Monday, until five days before Idul Fitri to allow for more peaceful surroundings for locals during the holy month.
“The policy was taken so that local people can do their fasting and pray without distractions,” Agus said as quoted by beritajakarta.com.
Ramadhan, when Muslims refrain from eating, drinking and other pleasures, is expected to fall between June 6 and July 6.
He added that Harapan Island would be the only island in the Thousand Islands area that would be closed during Ramadhan, whereas other places like Pramuka and Kelapa would still be opened as usual.
