French connection ends with 10-hands dinner

A week of cooking demonstrations, master classes and delicious meals came to an end on May 27 with a “10-hands” dinner at the Energy Building staged by The French Connection Festival Gastronomique 2016. Indonesia was represented at the dinner by chefs Gilles Marx from AMUZ Jakarta and Chris Salans from Mozaic in Bali, while famed chocolatier Stéphane Bonnat, French-born Master Chef Holland Alain Caron and Jacques Pourcel from Le Jardin Des Sens were brought to Jakarta for the third iteration of the popular festival, which made its bow in the capital after spending two years in Bali.

The Grand Hyatt Jakarta recently hosted a dinner to mark the hotel’s wedding fair, which runs from June 3 to June 5 and presents the works of two celebrated Indonesian designers, Andreas Odang and Rusly Tjohnardi, at the hotel’s Grand Ballroom. The Gigi Dance Company, led by the lovely and talented Gianti Giadi, welcomed guests under the palms of the outdoor deck at Residence OnFive with a take on Javanese dance that mixed the contemporary and traditional. More than 30 carefully curated vendors will be on hand for the festival, which ends Sunday.

William Wongso, Raffles welcome Ramadhan with four special menus

The Raffles Jakarta hotel is teaming up with William Wongso, the nation’s most acclaimed culinary expert, to present a month of unique dinners to break the fast during Ramadhan. William has been working with the hotel’s kitchen staff, led by Executive Chef Daniel Patterson, to develop an exquisite rotating menu reflecting four culinary traditions in Indonesia. Dishes from Bali and Lombok will be served up buffet style in the Arts Café until June 12, followed by the cuisine of Sulawesi and Kalimantan from June 13 to 19, Sumatra from June 20 to 26 and Java from June 27 to the end of the fasting month.

Stuart Rusted, the brand ambassador for Wolf Blass from Australia, recently visited Jakarta for a series of exclusive events at the JW Marriott, such as a “Yellow Party” in the hotel’s Blu Martini bar, marking the birthday of Melissa Ann Tjahyadikarta, as well as a wine dinner. Among the exquisitely pairings for the dinner devised by Rusted and the hotel’s executive chef, Francisco Brown, were a remarkable 2010 Grey Label Langhorne Creek Cabernet Shiraz served with an equally delicious involantis of beef and chef’s ricotta cheese cake paired with a surprisingly delightful Red Label non-vintage Moscato.

Georgia marks national day in style

The nation of Georgia celebrated the 25th anniversary of the restoration of its independence with a bash at the Borobudur Jakarta’s Singosari Room on May 27. Ambassador Zurab Aleksidze and his wife, Nino Jakhua, hosted the festivities, which attracted VIP guests such as Deputy Foreign Minister A.M. Fachir and Home Minister Tjahjo Kumolo. “We are continuing building our nation, Aleksidze said in his remarks. “We are strengthening the bilateral relationship with Indonesia, especially in the sector of tourism.”
