resident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has demanded his ministers and officials work faster on priority programs so that Indonesia can catch up to global changes.
He told high-ranking officials at ministerial level and those in the agencies across the country to remain steadfast in achieving the goals that have been set out.
"I want all of us to run faster because the world changes very quickly. It changes every second, every minute,” Jokowi said at a meeting in Jakarta on Tuesday, adding that if the Cabinet remained bound by old traditions, it would be difficult to instigate change.
The government has already outlined the national strategic programs by focusing on priority projects. "Therefore, we don't have to do everything. We want to focus [on the priority projects]," the President said.
Jokowi called on officials not to propose too many activities that required state funding. Instead, he said, proposed activities should be result-oriented.
“The government must shift its budget allocation paradigm, from money follows function, to money follows programs,” he added.
"It's true that procedure needs to be followed. But the orientation has to be on the results," Jokowi said. (bbn)
