resident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has reportedly sent a letter to the House of Representatives to recommend that National Police chief Gen. Badrodin Haiti be replaced by top anti-terror official Comr. Gen. Tito Karnavian.
House speaker Ade Komarudin confirmed that the letter of recommendation had been received.
“In the letter, the President recommends Comr. Gen. Tito Karnavian as the sole candidate for the National Police Chief position,” Ade said on Wednesday.
Ade said the House received the letter of recommendation on Wednesday.
"The House will follow up on the matter soon. God willing, tomorrow House leaders will hold a plenary meeting to conclude the matter,” he said.
Tito has held the top position at the National Counterterrorism Agency since March. Many people had believed that naming Tito as the new agency chief was a stepping stone to the National Police Chief position for 51-year-old Tito.
Tito will be the first among his 1987 police academy batch to be granted a three-star rank. (dmr)
