he Indonesian Badminton Association is using a sports-science-based mobile application to help groom its shuttlers ahead of the summer Olympic Games, which will run in August.
Felix Ary Bayu Martha, who is in charge of the association’s physical division, said recovering the shuttlers’ stamina has been his main focus ahead of tournaments, including the Olympics.
“The recovery program is as important as a training program,” Felix said as quoted by badmintonindonesia.org.
The recovery program contains a list of activities, which have to be conducted based on a strict schedule.
The sports-science-based app is installed on shuttlers’ smartphones to ease the monitoring.
“The application helps us monitor the athletes’ physical conditions, meaning that we can set a proper routine for a shuttler according to his or her physical state at that moment,” said Felix.
Indonesia has secured 10 spots in badminton, for Tomy Sugiarto in men’s singles, Linda Wenifanetri in women’s singles, Hendra Setiawan and Muhammad Ahsan in men’s doubles, Greysia Polii and Nitya Krishinda Maheswari in women’s doubles and Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir, as well as Praveen Jordan and Debby Susanto, in mixed doubles.
