BookWORM; Raditya Dika: Writer & reader

R

aditya Dika has always had a passion for writing.

His blog posts were first compiled into a book called Kambing Jantan (Goat) and published in 2006. Since then Raditya began to write book after book — all about his own personal, thought-provoking, side-splitting experiences.

To date, he has written seven books — all of which incorporate animal names for titles. Five have been made into movies.

Raditya recently directed the adaptation of his most recent book, Koala Kumal, which was published in 2015. The movie, which he also starred in, is scheduled for release on July 5 and promises to be a “comedy about broken hearts”.

As a director, writer, actor and comedian, Raditya has a lot of hats, so to speak. It turns out that he is also a keen reader.

“I really do think that books have an impact on us, the author influences our perspective,” he said. “I also think that reading helps a person to better their personality and can broaden one’s horizon and knowledge”.

Raditya has been inspired by a lot of books throughout his life and career. Below are a few books that he enjoyed reading:

--------------

Fight Club
by Chuck Palahniuk

I enjoyed reading this book because it was edgy and original. The story delves into the character of this unnamed, insomniac protagonist who meets and befriends a mysterious guy. Then the story starts to unfold. It’s great.

--------------

Lupus Series
by Hilman Hariwijaya

This book series was really entertaining. I was inspired to become a comedian when I read these books.

-------------

Me Talk Pretty One Day
by David Sedaris

This book is a collection of essays by an American humorist. It’s so funny.
