Official admits receiving money in land dispute: Ahok Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama talks at his office in Jakarta. (kompas.com/Kurnia Sari Aziza)

G

overnor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama has said that Jakarta Housing Agency head Ika Lestari Aji had received money from someone who claimed to own a plot of land in Cengkareng, West Jakarta, that was acquired by the agency to be used for low-cost apartments.

The governor said that Ika told him that she had received Rp 10 billion (US$755,573) in January from Toeti Noeziar Soekarno, the woman who claimed to own the land. It was later revealed that the land was owned by the Jakarta Fisheries, Agriculture and Food Security Agency.

“Ika reported the money to me, which she said was a gift from a land seller. I was suspicious. There must be something wrong. Therefore, I ordered her to report it to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK),” Ahok said at City Hall on Tuesday.

Previously, Ahok said he had received a report from the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) that the  housing agency had acquired a plot of land worth Rp 648 billion in West Cengkareng. Later, Toeti sued the city administration because she had not received Rp 200 billion for the land.

The State Land Agency (BPN) confirmed that the land was owned by the Jakarta Fisheries, Agriculture and Food Security Agency. The BPK is now investigating the case.

Ahok said he suspected that some housing agency officials had intended to acquire the land through the exchange of illegal commissions.

The administration has reported the case to National Police's criminal investigation department and the KPK for further investigation. (bbn)
