he Jakarta administration will provide subsidized frozen meat at several Jakarta schools on Monday in a bid to boost students’ performance by improving their nutritional intake.
Jakarta Food Security, Agriculture and Fisheries Agency head Mujiati said affordable frozen beef and chicken would be sold at bazaars at which only holders of Jakarta Smart Cards (KJP) could purchase the meat.
“The bazaars are aimed at helping students to get better nutrition to boost their performance at school,” Mujiati told The Jakarta Post on Wednesday in Jakarta, adding that students must bring their KJP with sufficient deposits for purchasing the meat.
The program, she added, was part of a series of meat sales previously held at the district office from June 27 to July 1 in cooperation with city-owned slaughterhouse PT Dharma Jaya.
The agency sells frozen beef and chicken to KJP holders for Rp 39,000 (US$2.60) and Rp 10,000 per kilogram, respectively, much lower than the current market prices of Rp 89,000 and Rp 35,000. (rez/ags)
