ctor and restaurant owner Marcel Chandrawinata takes his chefs on culinary trips abroad to improve their cooking skills.

The 29-year-old said he had recently taken his chefs to Malaysia, Singapore and Japan on food adventures.

“If they don’t go out, they won’t grow. Chefs here are hesitant to share their recipes. They’re more open overseas,” Marcel told kompas.com recently.

The trips, Marcel said, were arranged to improve the quality of food served at his restaurant.

Marcel, who’s best known for his role in Alexandria, has been diversifying his portfolio by opening a restaurant, the Commune Café & Bistro, in the Sudirman Central Business District in South Jakarta.

The restaurant is a joint partnership with his friends.
