An airline says a flight from Sydney to Thailand has been diverted to Indonesia to offload six rowdy passengers.

Jetstar sad in a statement on Thursday that Flight JQ27 was diverted to Bali on Wednesday night after the six who were traveling together to the tourist island of Phuket became "extremely disruptive among themselves" and refused requests from the crew.

The Australian budget airline says the passengers were handed over to Indonesian police at Denpasar Airport before the flight continued on to Phuket.

Jetstar says: "The other customers on board supported the decision to off load the group in Bali and thanked the crew."

The airline did not disclose the genders or other details about the six passengers. It also did not detail their behavior.
