Island focus: Another suspect named in Ramadhan’s case

T

he North Sumatra Police have named another suspect in an embezzlement case related to the 2015 Medan mayoral election, which involved Democratic Party politician Ramadhan Pohan.

North Sumatra Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Rina Sari Ginting confirmed that the suspect’s name was cited in a document issued to prompt the start of an investigation, which was later sent to the high prosecutor’s office.

The police, however, did not reveal the name, fearing the suspect would try to run away.

Rina said the police had summoned the suspect for questioning, but the suspect did not meet the summons. “We will soon force the suspect to appear at the police office for questioning. That is why we did not release the name,” she said.

The police are now building a case against two suspects.

North Sumatra High Prosecutor’s Office spokesman Bobby Sandri confirmed that his office had received a document naming Ramadhan Pohan and Savitri Linda Hora Panjaitan as suspects in the case.

“Both Ramadhan and Savitri are alleged to have committed embezzlement,” Bobby said, adding that they would be charged with violating articles 372 and 378 of the Criminal Code on embezzlement and deception.

The police did not detain the two suspects, saying they had both been cooperative.
