our Cirebon councillors were arrested for alleged gambling at a hotel in Bandung, West Java, late on Thursday.

West Java Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Yusri Yunus said the police arrested six people in Room 707 on the seventh floor of the Prime Park hotel. Four of them were playing cards while two others were eating at the time.

They were taken to the police office for questioning.

“We are developing the case. During questioning, they said they were just playing cards,” Yusri said, adding that police confiscated playing cards and Rp 5 million from the room.

The police named four of the six people in the room as suspects, who will be charged with violating Article 303 of the Criminal Code on gambling. “The maximum penalty is 10 years’ imprisonment,” Yusri said.

The four councillors were identified as HS, AS, A and HT. The police did not reveal their political affiliations.

The four Cirebon councilors were allegedly gambling on the sidelines of an official trip to attend training in Bandung. Cirebon Legislative Council speaker Mustofa said he had been informed about the incident.

“They will stay [in Bandung] for a series of interviews,” he said.
