he Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) has warned parents about the dangers that children may face when playing Pokémon Go, Nintendo’s new augmented-reality mobile application.
When playing the game, children may visit dangerous areas like roads, rivers and quiet places, which could endanger those who were not aware of hazards in the surrounding areas, KPAI commissioner Rita Pranawati told The Jakarta Post in Jakarta on Thursday.
“Any accident is possible while they play Pokémon Go. They could be hit by cars on the road or be kidnapped if they go to certain places,” Rita said, adding that parents should ban their children from dangerous spots when trying to catch Pokémon.
Separately, Koentjoro, a psychology expert from Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta, said it was not necessary to ban games like Pokémon Go because there were numerous positive aspects, but parents needed to talk to their children about how they allocated their time.
