AKARTA: A good number of celebrities have chosen to dive into the shady world of politics, but comedian Indro Warkop prefers to stay away from political affairs.
The 58-year-old actor, who rose to fame as part of the Warkop DKI comedy group, finds no interest in going into politics. The word “disgusting” comes to his mind when talking about it.
“Disgusting. This nation is broken because of politics, isn’t it? Imagine, just because of an election, we are all against each other. What kind of nation is this?” Indro said as reported by kapanlagi.com.
He believes that the country is not ready for democracy because people still lack tolerance when they become supporters of different competing groups.
Indro said he had been persuaded to enter politics several times. Some of the people who approached him even offered money and threatened him, the actor said. — JP
