Paul Eyanae of Kenya won the men’s open category of the MILO Jakarta 10K 2016 on Sunday, clocking in a winning time of 29 minutes. Meanwhile, compatriot Penina Jepkoec Kigen won the women’s open category in 34:32.
Each winner receives Rp 30 million (US$2,291) in prize money.
Kigen said the event offered a different challenge being a new route for her. Her good preparation, nevertheless, brought her to victory.
A runner from the hosting country, Agus Prayogo, won the men’s closed category in 31:39.
“The overpass part in the new route was definitely the highlight of this year’s 10K. However, I found no trouble at all throughout the race,” Agus said in a statement.
In the women’s closed category, Indonesian Rini Budiarti was the fastest in 37:29.
Around 15,000 runners participated in the 2016 MILO Jakarta International 10K, which was held to celebrate Jakarta’s 489th anniversary. The event offered open, closed and student categories.
