Gatot Nurmantyo - JP/Wendra AjistyatamaIndonesian Military (TNI) chief Gen
Indonesian Military (TNI) chief Gen. Gatot Nurmantyo has called on followers of terrorist Santoso, alias Abu Wardah, who was gunned down days ago, to surrender and receive clemency from the President.
The military chief said Santoso’s followers, estimated to number around 18 people, should surrender and face the legal process first before requesting clemency from the President.
Santoso’s wife, Jumiatun Muslim, alias Umi Delima, surrendered to security personnel on Saturday, just days after Santoso, the leader of the Eastern Indonesia Mujahidin (MIT), was killed during a shootout on July 18.
“If they still hide, we will not stop hunting them. However, if they want to face the legal process by surrendering, then there is still the possibility for them to request clemency,” Gatot said on Thursday.
“Once again, I want to tell them that there is no safe place for terrorists in Indonesia because the TNI and the police will not give up hunting them.”
The remaining MIT members hiding out in the Poso jungles are being led by Basri and Ali Kalora following the death of Santoso last week.
On Tuesday, Operation Tinombala seized an SS2 V2 assault rifle suspected to have been owned by the late Santoso.
