he Trade and Agricultural ministries, responsible for controlling food prices in the country, have joined forces to stabilize food prices by launching a cross-command program.
The two ministries agreed to assign State Logistics Agency (Bulog) to conduct the task by buying up all the food commodities from local farmers, said Trade Minister Engartiasto Lukita.
"This will cut the supply chain. Currently, each commodity has up to seven stage chains in average," he said in the press conference at Agricultural Ministry in Jakarta on Monday.
As part of the coordination, officials of the two ministries will carry out a cross-command program in which the trade minister can instruct the echelons of the Agricultural Ministry without asking the minister first, and vice versa.
"This synergy will result in faster responses. This is the time to remove sectoral ego," Agricultutal Minister Amran Sulaiman said. (ags)
