Spaniard cyclist Ricardo Garcia of the Continental Kinan Cycling Team has triumphed in the third stage of the Tour de Singkarak from the Equator Monument in Pasaman regency to West Pasaman’s four square, covering 123.1 kilometers in two hours, fifty-nine minutes and forty-three seconds.
In second position was South Korea’s Lee Ki Suk of the Korail Cycling Team, closely followed by Iranian Amir Kolahdouz of the Pishgaman Cycling Team in third.
Garcia, who previously ranked second in the general classification, grabbed the yellow jersey from previous stage winner Dylan Newberry, who finished in 51st place.
The third stage was deemed dangerous and exhausting, with three sprint checkpoints, namely in Lubuk Sikaping, Rambo Panti and Talu and three King of Mountain (KOM) points or uphill lanes.
“It definitely needs great team work and hard work to be at this point,” Garcia told journalists after the race on Monday.
This year’s race has seen no cyclists or team dominate the tour; each of the first three stages has been won by different cyclists. Australian Dylan Newberry won the first stage, Iranian Rahim Emami the second.
As for Indonesian cyclists, Dadi Suryadi of the Terengganu Cycling Team was the fifth cyclist to cross the finish line in the third stage and is the current holder of the red and white jersey for best Indonesian cyclist.
“I enjoyed this stage very much and am looking forward to the fourth,” Dadi said.
The fourth stage will begin on Tuesday, with the cyclists to face the famous Kelok 44 (44 turns) at Maninjau Lake.
The stage, which stretches 151.6 kilometers, begins in Padangpanjang town and traverses Anai Valley and the coastal city of Pariaman before finishing in Lawang Park, Agam regency.
The cyclists’ most severe challenge in this stage will be the two sprint points and two uphill lanes, namely in Padangpanjang with a height of 840 meters and at Kelok 44 with a height of 1,293 m.
