P

resident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has expressed hope that an investigation into claims allegedly made by drug convict Freddy Budiman before his execution that implicated law enforcers in the drug trade would uncover the truth.

Freddy’s alleged claim was reported by Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (Kontras) coordinator Haris Azhar.

The President has instructed law enforcers to seriously investigate the case.

“It should be tracked, uncovered and processed,” said Jokowi when officially opening the third Congress Association of Asian Constitutional Courts and Equivalent Institutions in Nusa Dua, Bali, on Thursday.

Haris wrote a Facebook post that implied that members of the National Police, the military and the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) were involved in Freddy's drug network. Reportedly quoting drug convicted Freddy, Haris wrote that high-ranking personnel of the three institutions had work with Freddy to smuggle and distribute illegal drugs.

A investigative team has been set up by the National Police to probe the allegation. The team consists of police investigators and representatives of the public.

Jokowi said people who had the capacity to investigate the case could join the team. "I have told the National Police chief to allow anyone with the capacity to join the team," Jokowi said. (bbn)
