orensic toxicologist I Made Agus Gelgel Wirasuta has said that according to a crime scene reenactment, defendant Jessica Kumala Wongso was the person most likely responsible for the cyanide-tainted drink that killed Wayan Mirna Salihin on Jan. 6.

Gelgel said there were three people who had the opportunity to put cyanide in the drink: the restaurant’s barista Rangga Dwi Saputra, waiter Agus Triyono, and Jessica, who ordered the coffee and was alone with it for about an hour.

He ruled out Agus because Agus was not seen opening the coffee dripper at all.

In light of this, Gelgel created six scenarios to illustrate different points in the coffee-making process at which cyanide may have been added to the drink.

In the scenarios, he alternated between putting cyanide at the very beginning, before adding ice cubes, milk, coffee and hot water, adding it in the middle of the process, and adding it later. In each scenario he checked the smell of coffee. In one scenario, in which he poured cyanide in hot water, the cyanide caused a pungent smell to waft throughout the café and he had to stop the demonstration.

"After reading the police’s report, I synchronized my findings with information from the digital forensics expert. Rangga didn't put anything besides ice cubes and milk in the glass. It has not been proven that cyanide was inserted before it was served," Gelgel said.

"In this reconstruction, it is the person who ordered the coffee who might be responsible for the [poison in the] coffee. Did she put the poison in the coffee? I don't know," Gelgel said.

Jessica's lawyer Otto Hasibuan questioned the accuracy of Gelgel's statement as it was based on the police's claims. Gelgel did not know for sure that Mirna was killed by cyanide, Otto said. (evi)
