he Greater Jakarta Transportation Agency (BPTJ) plans to provide public transportation to housing complexes in Greater Jakarta, including Cibubur, Bekasi.
BPTJ chairwoman Elly Sinaga said during a discussion on Wednesday that one of the agency’s focuses was providing public transportation that reached housing complexes, so people living in Greater Jakarta would be encouraged to leave behind their private cars and take other means of transportation to the city center.
“One of the areas is Cibubur in Bekasi,” she said, adding that she aimed to execute the plan by the end of this year.
Elly said the buses would have a dedicated lane on the toll road with a contraflow system.
She added that the agency had surveyed residents. “Ninety percent of the residents would willingly take buses should we provide them,” she said.
Elly said there were many housing complexes in Cibubur but the area did not have a good transportation system.
“Access to the area is only via the toll road. Hence, the area is always crowded during rush hour. Residents even have to leave home around 5 a.m. to avoid congestion,” she said.
