Health Minister Nila F
ealth Minister Nila F. Moeloek said on Wednesday that at least 1,500 children had been exposed to fake vaccines since 2014 after an investigative team scrutinized the 14 hospitals and six health clinics confirmed to have received the bogus products.
The 1,500 children are from three separate provinces. Nine-hundred-and-fifteen children are from Jakarta, 211 from Banten and 375 from West Java. Nila said the number obtained had been verified through medical records at the hospitals. She added that her office would provide posts for children to be revaccinated.
“Parents who are worried whether their children have been exposed to fake vaccines or not may register their children to be revaccinated because being vaccinated again will not harm the children,” she said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
According to data compiled by the ministry, 975 of the 1,500 children have been revaccinated. Three-hundred-and-three children do not have to be revaccinated because they are already considered immune. The remaining 31 children will not be revaccinated because their parents have refused to allow them to go through the process again.
