n a bid to boost electronic identity card (e-KTP) registration, the Jakarta Population and Civil Registration Agency will open registration services at subdistrict offices on Saturday and provide mobile service units across several regions.
Agency head Edison Sianturi said Friday that the new policies would come into effect on Saturday to ensure that more people registered for e-KTP.
He said he expected the e-KTP process for Jakarta residents to be completed in one month.
“Otherwise, residents who did not register for an e-KTP will have their identification data removed by the Home Ministry,” Edison said on Friday as quoted by kompas.com.
He said to register for e-KTP, residents needed to bring their old ID cards and family cards (KK) to a subdistrict office or mobile service unit.
The Home Ministry said almost 162 million people had registered for e-KTP so far. The government has threatened that citizens who fail to obtain an e-KTP will not able to access services, such as obtaining driver’s licenses, opening bank accounts and securing health insurance through the Social Security Management Agency (BPJS).
