he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has questioned Farizal, a prosecutor from West Sumatra, in the case surrounding a bribe allegedly accepted by Regional Representatives Council Speaker Irman Gusman.
The KPK has named Irman a suspect for allegedly accepting Rp 100 million (US$ 7,600) in return for his recommendation to the State Logistics Agency (Bulog) to increase the sugar import quota allotted to CV Semesta Berjaya.
Semesta Berjaya director Xaveriandy Sutanto was also accused of bribing Farizal with Rp 365 million to settle a legal case on the sale of non-standard sugar.
Wito, the Attorney General Office’s (AGO) inspector-general for supervision, said on Wednesday that Farizal was questioned by the KPK as a witness in Irman’s case, but added that the KPK had not named him a suspect and therefore he had not been arrested.
“Investigators have not decided to detain Farizal, as it is unnecessary for the time being,” KPK spokesperson Yuyuk Andriati said.
Attorney General Muhammad Prasetyo said on Tuesday that Farizal had been suspended from his duty at the West Sumatra Prosecutors’ Office.
“He has been suspended and will only be dismissed if he is named a defendant,” Prasetyo said. (wnd/bbn)
