T

he Jakarta General Elections Commission (KPUD Jakarta) has prohibited 2017 Jakarta gubernatorial election candidates from accepting anonymous donations, saying all campaign funds must be transparent.

.tribunnews.com"Donors are not allowed to state unclear identities, such as in the past when ‘Hamba Allah’ [God's servants] donated hundreds of millions of rupiah," KPUD Jakarta chairman Sumarno said on Monday as reported by

For campaign transparency, all verified candidates must reveal the details of their campaign bank accounts.

The KPU will cooperate with an independent public accountant office to audit candidates’ campaign funds. The commission has set limits on donations.

"For individual donors, the maximum donation is Rp 75 million (US$5,738) and for corporations the maximum donation is Rp 750 million. After campaign activities end, we will start auditing campaign funds," he said.

Three candidate pairs have registered to contest the Jakarta election in February next year. They are incumbents Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama and Deputy Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono and Sylviana Murni, and Anies Baswededan and Sandiaga Uno.

The KPU will announce which candidates passed screening along with their candidacy numbers on Oct. 25 before the Oct. 28-Feb. 14 campaign period starts. (rin)
