The president director and founder of private carrier Sriwijaya Air, Chandra Lie, applied for tax amnesty in Jakarta on Monday.
His participation fulfilled his recent promise to President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo in a meeting with prominent businesspeople, including Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry chairman Rosan P. Roeslani, OSO Group Founder Oesman Sapta Odang and media magnate Dahlan Iskan.
Chandra only reported his private tax administration, while his staffers were still preparing the relevant documents for his company’s application. “I hope my company’s application for tax amnesty can be filed in the near future,” he told journalists.
Chandra refused to disclose the value of his assets to tax authorities. He declared his personal wealth and planned to repatriate his overseas assets.
“I want to purchase more aircraft for my business expansion,” he said.
Chandra founded Sriwijaya Air with his brother Hendry Lie in 2003. With a fleet of 46 aircraft, the airline is now serving 47 domestic routes and seven international routes.
He expanded his business by establishing low-cost carrier NAM Air in 2013. (rez/bbn)
