upporters of Jakarta gubernatorial hopeful Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono on Monday established the Agus Fun Club (AFC) to draw votes for the son of former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in the Jakarta election.

The establishment of the club was initiated by two private company employees, Muhammad Rifai Darus and Sirajuddin Abdul Wahab.

The members of the club come from various backgrounds, such as businesspeople, activists and political party members, said Sirajuddin at the club’s launch at a Jakarta restaurant on Monday.

“We established the club because we believe that Agus deserves to lead Jakarta. He is a young, smart and polite person with a military background. He will be a firm leader,” Sirajuddin told The Jakarta Post on Monday.

Agus and his running mate, Sylviana Murni, were declared a gubernatorial pair on Sept. 23 by the Democratic Party, United Development Party, National Awakening Party and National Mandate Party.

In their first meeting, members of the club collected money to finance their movement. Sirajuddin stressed that the club would be expanded so that it had representatives in every subdistrict across the capital.

He said the club would also create programs and social media accounts to introduce the pair to Jakarta voters.

Sirajuddin claimed the club was an independent movement that had no affiliation with political parties and was even established without Agus’ consent.  (bbn)
