ncumbent pair Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama-Djarot Saiful Hidayat lost a Twitter poll organized recently by the Golkar Party, one of four parties supporting the candidates in the upcoming Jakarta gubernatorial election.

The poll on @Golkar5, an official Golkar Twitter account, was scrapped after the result was not in accordance with expectations, Golkar deputy secretary-general Dave Laksono said as reported by kompas.com.

“It was just for fun, but because the result was not in accordance with expectations, we revised it,” Dave added on Tuesday.

The poll was posted on Sept. 24, one day after three candidate pairs registered with the Jakarta General Elections Commission (KPU Jakarta).

The question posted on the @Golkar5 account was: “In your opinion, which pair is suitable to lead Jakarta from 2017 to 2022?”

The question referred to the three pairs: Ahok-Djarot, supported by Golkar, the NasDem Party and Hanura Party; Anies Baswedan-Sandiaga Uno, supported by the Gerindra Party and Prosperous Justice Party; and Agus Marimurti Yudhoyono-Sylviana Murni, supported by the Democratic Party, United Development Party, National Awakening Party and National Mandate Party.

As of Tuesday evening, 2,097 people had taken part in the poll. The results registered that Agus-Sylviana received 48 percent of Twitter users’ votes, while Anies-Sandiaga got 27 percent and Ahok-Djarot got 25 percent.

Dave said, however, that internet polls could not be used to ascertain the real hopes of the people, and the party would therefore organize a more professional survey. “There will be a survey that can show the real facts,” he added. (bbn)
