he government’s legal reform packages should enhance the country’s efforts to eradicate corruption, says the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (PPATK).

"There should be a law covering the reappropriation of assets [for corruption and such crimes], a law on limiting cash transactions, as well as optimizing the PPATK's analysis for the country's interests," PPATK chairman Muhammad Yusuf said on Wednesday.

The legal reform packages should also promote transparency in state institutions, particularly in law enforcement agencies, including in regard to changes in positions and ranks, standard operational procedures and settlement of criminal cases, as well as the treatment of whistle-blowers, so that the justice system improves, Yusuf said.

Justice system reform should also focus on evaluating the performance of state institutions, such as monitoring whether the agencies have fulfilled their program targets, Yusuf said.

President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo appointed Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Wiranto to lead legal system and law enforcement reform in July. The issuance date of the legal reform packages has not been set. (dmr)
