oy Sadikin, a son of former Jakarta governor Ali Sadikin, has expressed his readiness to organize volunteers to support the Jakarta gubernatorial ticket Anies Baswedan-Sandiaga Uno after he was appointed to head the volunteers for the pair on Thursday.
"We tried to recruit as many volunteers as possible. Now five to 10 volunteer groups have declared support for Anies-Sandiaga," Boy said at his late father's house in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Thursday.
Boy, who is the former head of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle's (P-DIP) Jakarta branch, will meet with volunteers to discuss strategies to help the pair win the election on Feb. 15, 2017.
Meanwhile, the Anies-Sandiaga campaign team manager, Mardani Ali Sera, said volunteers were the backbone of the campaign team.
Mardani said volunteers would help the team gain 2.8 million voters. "We believe that Boy will be able to convince a lot of volunteers because there are many Anies -Sandiaga supporters who don't want to use party's attributes," he said.
The Anies-Sandiaga ticket is one of three pairs that will contest the election. Anies and Sandiga are supported by the Gerindra Party and the Prosperous Justice Party. The two other pairs are incumbent Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama and his deputy Djarot Saiful Hidayat, and Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono-Sylviana Murni. (bbn)
