ormer Regional Representatives Council (DPD) speaker Irman Gusman has officially filed a pretrial motion after he was named a suspect in a bribery case related to a sugar import quota.
The pretrial motion to challenge the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) was filed with the South Jakarta District Court by Irman's lawyer, Razman Nasution, on Thursday, the court's spokesman Made Sutrisna has confirmed.
"The hearing schedule has not been decided," Made said, adding that the court judge who would lead the hearing had also not been appointed, Antara reported on Friday.
Meanwhile, Razman said the pretrial motion was filed to challenge the KPK's raid on Irman's house on Sept. 17. Razman said the raid warrant was directed at Xaveriandy Sutanto, the director of CV Semesta Berjaya, but the KPK used it to arrest Irman instead.
"We have gathered the evidence and studied the procedures, including the [raid warrant]. We can't yet reveal other evidence since it will be used in the hearing," Razman said.
During the Sept. 17 raid on Irman's house, the KPK arrested Irman, Xaveriandy's wife and brother, as well as Xaveriandy himself. The Semesta Berjaya director and his wife were named suspects for allegedly handing over the bribe. The KPK confiscated Rp 100 million [US$7,589] as evidence. (bbn)
