he National Narcotics Agency (BNN) in conjunction with the National Police, Indonesian Military and the Customs and Excise Office foiled an attempt to smuggle 67 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine in Tegal and Demak, Central Java on Saturday.
The drugs was sent from Malaysia and concealed inside filters in five water pumps.
“We pursued this case from an attempt to smuggle 20kg in Palembang [South Sumatra],” BNN’s eradication department head Insp. Gen. Arman Depari said on Saturday in Demak.
The BNN arrested five suspects in the case. They have been identified only as YT from Demak, WD and TT from Rembang, WJ from Pati, all in Central Java, and YS from Pekanbaru in Riau.
In Tegal, the BNN confiscated 56 packets of crystal meth, weighing 56 kg in total. YT reportedly confessed to the police that there were still some hidden inside the filters, the police said.
BNN officers found 11 packets in YT’s house. “In total we confiscated 67 kg," said Depari.
Depari said he was sure the suspects were part of an international ring. (evi)
