T

he Jakarta City Council is criticizing the city administration’s move to use funds from a private company to purchase notebook computers for the Jakarta General Elections Commission (KPUD Jakarta) and Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu).

The councillors are questioning why the administration used the funds, which were from PT Sampoerna Land, instead of using its 2016 budget.

Meanwhile, as stated in Law No. 8/2015 on general elections, KPUD Jakarta and Bawaslu’s regional chapter should be funded by the city’s budget, said Syarif, a Commission A member of the City Council.

“We have met with KPUD Jakarta and Bawaslu, which confirmed that they did not ask for the grant,” said Syarif on Wednesday. “We will meet with Sampoerna Land and the executives next week to confirm who asked for the grant.”

Previously, during a hearing involving KPUD Jakarta and the City Council’s Commission A overseeing political affairs, a number of councillors questioned the use of computers purchased with funds from a developer.

In response, KPUD Jakarta returned the computers to the city administration.

Jakarta Unity, Nationality and Politics Body head Ratiyono said on Tuesday that KPUD Jakarta had requested the laptops when the revised 2016 budget completed deliberation. Hence, there was no money allocated in the city budget for purchasing computers.

To resolve the matter, however, the administration had to use the company’s funds, which reached Rp 10.2 billion as compensation to increase its building’s floor coefficient (KLB). (evi)
