tate utility firm PLN officiated on Tuesday the operation to supply 24-hour electricity to six places in Indonesia’s newest province, North Kalimantan.
East and North Kalimantan PLN’s general manager Tohari Hadiat said six diesel power plants had been upgraded from working 12 hours to 24 hours a day. The plants are: Long Iram and Muara Pahu in West Kutai regency; Atap, Sebuku and Tulin Onsoi in Berau regency; and Sangkurilang plant in East Kutai regency.
Villages, Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration Minister Eko Putro Sandjojo, North Kalimantan Governor Irianto Lambrie and PLN’s Tohari attended the ceremony in Tanjung Selor, the capital of North Kalimantan. “I hope this can contribute to people’s welfare,” Tohari said.
Long Iram and Muara Pahu plants were running from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. and now with longer operations, Long Iram’s capacity increased to 870 kW and Muara Pahu to 595 kW, which makes a combined capacity of 1,465 kW while the combined peak demand is only 900 kW. It means both have a 565 kW surplus, which can be distributed to new customers in the areas.
Atap, Tulin Onsoi and Sebuku combined have a surplus of 1,022 kW and Sangkurilang has a 115 kW surplus.
“The new operational hours require our increased competence to maximize the service,” said Tohari.
Previously on Aug. 17 this year, East and North Kalimantan PLN officiated 24-hour electricity in Mahakam Ulu regency, specifically in border areas Ujoh Bilang and Long Bagun. (evi)
