Consulate ignites interest in Indonesia in Australian students through language learning

he Indonesian Consulate (KJRI) in Sydney is hosting a series of cultural activities in its "Visiting KJRI" program with local schools in a bid to strengthen people-to-people relations between Indonesia and Australia. The activities include teaching the Indonesian language to local students.
"The Indonesian language is easy to learn and provides an entry point to get to know more about Indonesian culture and art. Indonesia has a rich and diverse culture stretching from the western tip of Sumatra to Papua," consul general Yayan GH Mulyana said as quoted by Antara news agency on Tuesday.
Yayan noted that the close geographical position of Indonesia and Australia would mean that Indonesia would continue to be an important partner to Australia in the future.
The consulate recently hosted visitors from the Nowra St. John the Evangelist High School for Indonesian language classes. As many as 22 grade 10 students along with two teachers attended the session.
The program, carried out in collaboration with the Indonesian Embassy in Canberra, also aims to promote the Indonesian language across New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia.
Enhancing people-to-people contact between Indonesians and Australians is a priority within bilateral cooperation between the two countries, the statement further said. (liz/rin)
