ertamina says it will ensure sufficient fuel supplies despite a threatened strike by thousands of tanker truck drivers grouped under the Indonesian Port and Transportation Workers Federation (FBTPI).
Pertamina spokeswoman Wianda Pusponegoro said the state-owned energy company had prepared a special task force backed by police officers to manage fuel distribution across the country.
“Fuel distribution will be done as usual. The special task force will also guarantee that enough drivers are available,” she told The Jakarta Post on Monday, a day before the strike was set to commence.
FBTPI spokesman Nuratmo said that as of Monday morning, the group had not changed its mind and would go ahead with the walkout if Pertamina Patra Niaga (PPN), Pertamina’s subsidiary for fuel distribution, refused to meet its demands.
FBTPI has demanded that PPN give its drivers permanent employment contracts and provide them with benefits like meal allowances and holiday bonuses.
“We are ready. But, since we will meet with the police and representatives from Pertamina today, we will wait for the results of that meeting,” he said. (win/bbn)
