he Jakarta Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) has recorded dozens of alleged campaign violations committed by the three candidate pairs for next year’s gubernatorial election, just two weeks after the campaign period kicked off.
Jakarta Bawaslu found that the Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono-Sylviana Murni duo had so far allegedly committed 15 campaign violations, the most among the three candidate pairs.
Incumbent Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama and running mate Djarot Saiful Hidayat, meanwhile, have allegedly committed six campaign violations, sharing the same number with the Anies Baswedan-Sandiaga Uno pair.
“We will follow up the findings and reports about the alleged violations in accordance with the regulations,” Jakarta Bawaslu head Mimah Susanti said on Thursday.
The campaign period for the upcoming gubernatorial election spans from Oct. 26 to Feb. 11, 2017. Voting day, meanwhile, is on Feb. 15.
Jakarta Bawaslu has so far identified eight types of violations during the campaign, including money politics, the use of state facilities, the involvement of children and the absence of campaign permits.
Mimah said her agency had also received seven reports regarding campaign methods that exploited tribal, religious, racial and societal group (SARA) issues, including in the distribution of campaign material during Friday prayers, and to fuel attempts to drive away campaign events in some areas.
